New Jersey S583 requires institutions of higher education to place an automatic external defibrillator in each athletic facility and student center. The defibrillator must be in an unlocked location with a sign, accessible during operating hours, and near athletic fields. The institution must ensure two staff members trained in CPR and defibrillator use are present during these hours. Each defibrillator must be tested, maintained, and its details reported to emergency services. The institution and its staff are immune from civil liability for defibrillator acquisition and use.
