New Jersey S539 prohibits moderate and high risk sex offenders from holding jobs primarily involving contact with children.

New Jersey S539 makes it a crime of the third degree for moderate and high risk sex offenders to hold any job, position, or type of employment where 80 percent or more of the duties involve contact with children. The bill defines "sex offender" as someone convicted of a sex offense and assessed as having a moderate or high risk of re-offense. The crime carries a penalty of three to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to $15,000, or both. The law does not apply to sex offenders under 18 providing rehabilitative services to juvenile sex offenders.
