Introduced Text

New Jersey S522 mandates that ballot questions on State bond issues must disclose the total amount of outstanding debt.

New Jersey S522 requires that when a law authorizing State general obligation debt is submitted to voters, the ballot question must include a statement of the total amount of outstanding debts and liabilities of the State, any State agency or instrumentality, and any other entity funded by an annual State appropriation. This disclosure is to ensure voters are fully informed about the financial obligations being proposed. The statement must be current as of June 30 of the year before the public question is submitted.
