New Jersey S4816 provides same death benefits to State Police Retirement System (SPRS) members who die by suicide as those who die in the performance.
New Jersey S4816 amends the State Police Retirement System (SPRS) to provide the same death benefits to SPRS members who die by suicide as those who die in the performance of their duty. Under current law, accidental death benefits are only payable if the member's death occurred while in active service as a result of an accident met in the actual performance of duty at some definite time and place, or service in the reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard in a federal active duty status, and such death was not the result of the member's willful.
