New Jersey S4724 mandates quarterly microbial testing of ice from vending machines and manufacturing plants.
New Jersey S4724 requires the owners of ice vending machines and ice manufacturing plants to have their ice tested for microbial contamination by an approved laboratory once per quarter. The testing must include analysis for fecal and total coliform organisms. If three consecutive samples are satisfactory, testing can be extended to once every six months. If a sample is unsatisfactory, the owner must revert to quarterly testing until a satisfactory result is achieved. The Department of Health may also collect and analyze samples when necessary.
