Moksha's Law expands damages for pet and service animal deaths due to negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct.
Moksha's Law expands the recovery of damages in civil actions for the death of domestic companion animals, emotional support animals, or service animals. The bill allows for compensatory damages including veterinary expenses, burial costs, and the fair market value of the animal. It also permits noneconomic damages for the loss of companionship, love, and affection. Reasonable attorney's fees and litigation costs are also recoverable. The law applies to all causes of action arising before, on, or after its effective date, provided the statute of limitations has not expired.
