Permits protective order to be issued against unemancipated minor.
New Jersey S4628 amends the "Victim’s Assistance and Survivor Protection Act" to allow courts to issue protective orders against unemancipated minors who commit nonconsensual sexual contact, sexual penetration, lewdness, stalking, or cyber-harassment. Previously, such minors could not receive protective orders under VASPA unless they were at least 18 years old or emancipated. The bill also allows applicants to seek protective orders in courts with jurisdiction over the alleged conduct, the respondent's residence, or the alleged victim's residence or shelter.
