New Jersey S4601 amends existing laws to require pharmacists or their designees to notify consumers when a different brand name drug, a non-brand name drug, or a biological product is substituted for a prescribed drug or biological product. This notification must occur at the time the substituted product is dispensed. The bill also mandates that pharmacists communicate the substitution to the prescriber within five business days if a biological product is dispensed. The communication can be made electronically if the prescriber has access to such systems.
