New Jersey S4528 amends existing law to bar parents from inheriting or administering their deceased child's estate if they are delinquent in child support payments. This applies when the parent owes past due child support that equals or exceeds the amount of support payable for six months and no regular payments are being made or previously were made. The bill also applies if the parent abused or neglected the child, refused to acknowledge or abandoned the child, or was convicted of certain crimes against the child. The estate would be distributed as though the parent predeceased the child.
