The bill expands the crime of human trafficking to include individuals who receive a financial benefit from participating in human trafficking. Human trafficking is a crime of the first degree, punishable by a term of imprisonment of 10 to 20 years, a fine of up to $200,000, or both. Under certain circumstances, a person convicted of human trafficking may be incarcerated for a term of 20 years during which the person is not eligible for parole, or a specific term between 20 years and life imprisonment, of which the person is required to serve 20 years before being eligible for parole.
