Final Passage·6/30/26
Introduced Text

Extends provisions for involuntary commitment and temporary detention in New Jersey.

This bill extends certain provisions related to involuntary commitment in New Jersey. It allows general hospitals to detain individuals for up to 72 hours without a temporary court order if they meet specific criteria. The Office of the Public Defender must be appointed as counsel for the patient if no other counsel is designated. The court may grant a temporary order for continued detention if the hospital demonstrates a need and the patient's counsel consents.
