New Jersey S4400 requires the Department of Environmental Protection to evaluate the short and long-term effects of water use by large-scale data centers. The study will cover the preceding three years for short-term effects and seven years for long-term effects, as well as future data centers. The evaluation will consider water use impacts on drinking water systems, wastewater systems, and the environment. The Department may require data from data center owners, public water systems, and other entities, and can use available records and estimates if historical data is lacking.
