New Jersey S408 allows temporary employees injured at state psychiatric or correctional facilities to apply for accidental disability benefits after.
New Jersey S408 permits temporary employees injured at state psychiatric or correctional facilities to apply for accidental disability benefits under the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) if the injury occurred after January 2003 but before they became PERS members. Previously, such injuries were only eligible for workers' compensation benefits. The bill also adds a personnel orientation program for new employees at state psychiatric institutions and correctional facilities to inform them of injury risks during their duties. The provisions apply retroactively to January 1, 2003.
