This bill expands the domestic violence statutes in New Jersey to include minors aged 16 and older. It allows victims and defendants who are at least 16 years old to apply for and be subject to domestic violence restraining orders. Previously, such orders could only be issued if the victim was at least 18 years old, an emancipated minor, or had a dating relationship with the defendant. The bill applies to all acts of domestic violence committed on or after its effective date.
