New Jersey S3873 permits members of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to perform traffic duties during emergencies or disasters. To qualify, members must pass a physical exam, complete a training course, and take an oath. They can perform duties anywhere in the state for up to five years. These officers are not liable for damages if they act in good faith and within their training. They must wear a safety vest and other equipment and cannot supersede authorized law enforcement officers.
