Requires physicians to offer patients an opportunity to undergo an ultrasound or sonogram within 48 hours of an abortion referral or procedure.
The bill mandates that physicians provide patients with an opportunity to undergo an obstetrical ultrasound or sonogram and view the image within 48 hours of a referral for an abortion or prior to the abortion procedure. Any health irregularities disclosed by the ultrasound must be communicated to the patient at least 24 hours before the scheduled abortion. The Department of Health is required to develop a form for physicians to verify that the patient was offered this opportunity. A physician who fails to offer this opportunity is subject to civil penalties.
