This bill creates a two-year pilot program to address antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistant genes (ARG) in New Jersey water systems. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Health (DOH), and New Jersey Infrastructure Bank will collaborate to implement the program. The pilot program will detect, monitor, and eradicate ARB and ARG at wastewater treatment plants, hospitals, surface waters, agricultural areas, sediments near effluent discharge points, and groundwater aquifers.
