Establishes a child support lien on life insurance proceeds and requires insurers to perform a child support judgment search.
The bill establishes a child support lien on the proceeds of any settlement, judgment, inheritance, or award exceeding $2,000, if the prevailing party or beneficiary is a child support judgment debtor. It also mandates a child support judgment search before distributing proceeds from an annuity contract or life insurance policy. If a child support judgment is found, the proceeds are used to satisfy the judgment. The bill exempts pre-paid funeral policies, credit life insurance policies, and reasonable funeral expenses from these provisions.
