This bill modifies the classification of simple assault against health care workers at psychiatric screening centers. Currently, simple assault on certain health care workers is automatically upgraded to aggravated assault. The bill exempts simple assault on health care workers at psychiatric screening centers from this automatic upgrade, except when the health care worker is a direct care worker at a State or county psychiatric hospital or other specifically enumerated facilities.
