New Jersey S3489 provides employment protections for paid first responders diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

New Jersey S3489, known as the "New Jersey First Responders Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Protection Act," establishes employment protections for paid first responders diagnosed with work-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The bill prohibits employers from discharging, harassing, or discriminating against employees who take or request leave related to a qualifying PTSD diagnosis. A PTSD diagnosis qualifies if it is memorialized in an order of a judge of the Division of Workers' Compensation or admitted by the employer after a mental health professional's examination.
