New Jersey S335 prohibits the State Board of Education from requiring student growth objectives, or any substantially similar assessment, as part of the evaluation of any teacher. Under current law, the State Board of Education sets the minimum standards for the teacher evaluation rubric, which includes student growth objectives. These objectives, which account for between 15 and 50 percent of a teacher’s overall evaluation, are multiple assessments designed by teachers to measure student progress in relation to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
