Clarifies right of crime victim to make in-person statement to defendant about crime impact.
This bill amends existing law to clarify that crime victims have the right to make an in-person statement directly to the defendant about the impact of the crime at any trial, hearing, or proceeding where a victim impact statement is given. This right is subject to the court finding that the defendant is capable of attending. The statement is in addition to any other permitted statements. The bill also reiterates other rights of crime victims, including being treated with dignity and being informed about the criminal justice process.
