The Safe Playing Fields Act restricts the use of lawn care pesticides at child care centers and schools enrolling students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Exceptions are made for emergency responses to immediate health threats, determined by relevant officials. The act also mandates the Commissioner of Environmental Protection, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, to establish rules for pesticide application, record-keeping, and notification procedures at child care centers to mitigate health risks. The act takes effect 13 months after enactment.
