Introduced Text

Makes total property tax exemption for 100% disabled veterans retroactive to the effective date of total disability determination.

This bill amends New Jersey law to make the total property tax exemption for 100% disabled veterans retroactive to the effective date of the determination of total disability by the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs. It requires the State to reimburse municipalities for the amount of property taxes returned to a totally disabled veteran. The surviving spouse of a veteran who died prior to January 10, 1972, and would have been eligible for the exemption, is also entitled to the same exemption. The bill takes effect immediately.
