Introduced Text

New Jersey S3062 allows counties to establish a Tenant Legal Assistance Program for low-income families and fund it with a portion of sheriff's fees.

New Jersey S3062 allows each county to establish a Tenant Legal Assistance Program to provide legal representation in landlord-tenant proceedings for low-income families. Counties can fund this program using a portion of the sheriff's fee from residential mortgage execution sales. Counties without the program must run a public awareness campaign for Legal Services of New Jersey. The bill also creates a trust fund for these fees and requires counties to use them for the designated program.
