Introduced Text

New Jersey S2968 allows municipalities to permit single exit stairwells in new residential buildings under six stories.

New Jersey S2968 permits municipalities to adopt ordinances allowing single exit stairwells in new residential buildings under six stories, despite existing State Uniform Construction Code requirements. This applies to Group R-2 occupancy buildings, which include sleeping units or more than two dwelling units with primarily permanent occupants. The first floor can be nonresidential if it is a nonhazardous occupancy and has separate entrances from residential floors.
