Introduced Text

New Jersey S284 allows Legal Services of New Jersey and other public interest organizations to access eviction records.

New Jersey S284 amends the confidentiality of certain eviction actions to allow Legal Services of New Jersey and other non-profit public interest organizations to access nonpayment court records. This exception ensures these organizations can provide informed legal advice to unrepresented tenants. The bill maintains the confidentiality of personally-identifiable information but allows access to demographic information for public purposes. The Supreme Court of New Jersey can certify these organizations under Rule 1:21-11(b).
