Establishes "Purple Alert System" to assist in finding missing persons.

New Jersey S2831 establishes a "Purple Alert System" to notify the public of missing persons. This system involves a voluntary, cooperative effort between state and local law enforcement agencies and the media. Alerts include descriptions of the missing person and information on how the public can assist. The Missing Persons Unit in the Division of State Police, in consultation with the Department of Transportation, will develop a procedure for using overhead permanent changeable message signs to provide information on missing persons.
