The New Jersey Safe Haven for Protection of Domestic Companion Animals Act allows any person to voluntarily and anonymously deliver a domestic companion animal to a shelter, pound, veterinary hospital, or police station in the State. The person delivering the animal is not liable for the care or disposition of the animal. Shelters, pounds, veterinary hospitals, and police stations must provide necessary care and must post signs with operating hours and information on where to deliver animals when closed.
