Introduced Text

New Jersey S2372 allows early termination of a motor vehicle lease upon the lessee's death and prohibits fees for such terminations.

New Jersey S2372 allows a motor vehicle lease to be terminated early if the lessee dies, provided the vehicle was leased and registered in the state. The bill requires dealers and lessors to disclose this right in the lease contract or financing agreement. A surviving spouse, family member, guardian, or estate administrator must provide proof of the lessee's death within 60 days to terminate the lease. The bill prohibits imposing fees for early termination due to death but allows fees for excess wear, use, or mileage if specified in the lease agreement.
