S.226

Prohibits use by certain retailers of shipping box greater than two times volume of product being shipped.

Chamber Passed·6/28/24

New Jersey S226 prohibits large online and major retailers from using shipping boxes larger than twice the volume of the product being shipped.

New Jersey S226 aims to reduce packaging waste by limiting the size of shipping boxes used by large online retailers and major retailers. The bill defines "large online retailer" as a business with annual gross sales of at least one million dollars in or into the state, and "major retailer" as a retail establishment with at least 75,000 square feet and 50 or more employees. Beginning six months after the act's effective date, these retailers cannot use a shipping box larger than twice the volume of the product being shipped.
