New Jersey S2253 amends the wrongful death act to allow for the recovery of damages for mental anguish, emotional pain and suffering, loss of society, and loss of companionship. Currently, damages are limited to pecuniary loss, hospital, medical, and funeral expenses. This bill introduces broader compensation for the emotional and societal impacts of a wrongful death, effective immediately for all causes of action arising after its enactment.
