New Jersey S2179 mandates prenatal and post-partum education and services for pregnant inmates.

New Jersey S2179 requires the Department of Corrections to provide comprehensive prenatal and post-partum education and services for pregnant inmates. This includes prenatal education, medical evaluation and care, nutritional counseling, family planning and religious counseling, and post-partum care. Pregnant inmates are to be tested for pregnancy upon entering a correctional facility, and those confirmed pregnant will receive ongoing prenatal care, suitable maternity clothes, and reasonable housing and work schedules as medically advised. The act takes effect immediately.
