New Jersey S201 mandates the Department of Environmental Protection to create rules for an alternative compliance program for vehicle manufacturers.

New Jersey S201 requires the Department of Environmental Protection to adopt rules and regulations establishing an Interim Alternative ZEV Compliance Program. This program provides vehicle manufacturers with alternative compliance options for the state's Low Emission Vehicle program. Manufacturers can comply by offering a portfolio of zero-emission vehicles to New Jersey dealers, up to the number of vehicles ordered by consumers. The bill specifies that manufacturers complying with this program are exempt from penalties for noncompliance with zero-emission vehicle sales quotas.
