Introduced Text

Permits minors 13 years of age and older to consent to behavioral health care services.

This bill amends current law to lower the age requirement for a minor to consent to behavioral health care services for treatment of mental illness or emotional disorders. Previously, the minimum age to consent to such services was 16 years of age. Now, minors aged 13 and older can consent to temporary outpatient treatment, excluding medication administration, under the supervision of a physician, advanced practice nurse, or licensed professional counselor. The consent of parents or guardians is no longer necessary for these services.
