Introduced·1/9/24
Introduced Text

New Jersey S1960 mandates helmet use for all ages when operating bicycles, scooters, or motorized scooters.

New Jersey S1960 amends existing law to require all individuals, regardless of age, to wear helmets while operating bicycles, scooters, or motorized scooters. This bill extends the current helmet requirement, which only applied to those under 17 years old, to all users of these devices. It also mandates that businesses selling or renting these items must provide helmets to those who do not have one and post signs advising customers of the helmet requirement. The bill includes provisions for civil immunity for businesses that comply with these requirements.
