Upgrades simple assault to aggravated assault when committed against registered security officer.

The bill amends the New Jersey criminal code to upgrade simple assault to aggravated assault if committed against a registered security officer. Aggravated assault is a third-degree crime if the victim suffers bodily injury, otherwise it is a fourth-degree crime. The bill specifies that a person is guilty of aggravated assault if they commit simple assault against a security officer who is clearly identifiable as performing their duties or because of their status as a security officer. The bill takes effect immediately.
