Makes annual compensation for surviving spouses of blind or disabled veterans payable from the date of the veteran's death.

New Jersey S1553 amends existing law to ensure that annual compensation for surviving spouses of blind or disabled veterans begins from the date of the veteran's death. Previously, payments were made from April 9, 1985, or the date of application, depending on the veteran's death date. This change applies to all surviving spouses receiving payments under the relevant statutes, effective immediately upon enactment. The Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs must notify affected spouses and ensure accrued payments are settled within 90 days.
