Introduced Text

New Jersey S1522 requires the Motor Vehicle Commission to authorize monthly installment plans for motor vehicle surcharges upon request and extends.

New Jersey S1522 amends the Motor Vehicle Violations Surcharge System to mandate that the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) authorize a monthly installment plan for paying motor vehicle surcharges upon a driver's written request. The bill prohibits the MVC from denying any request to enter into a monthly installment plan. It extends the time period for monthly installment payments, allowing drivers to pay assessments on an installment basis for up to four years for assessments under $2,300, or up to six years for assessments of $2,300 or more.
