The bill establishes the Office of Inspector General for Prosecutorial Review within, but independent of, the Department of Law and Public Safety. The Inspector General, appointed by the Governor with Senate consent, must have experience as both a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. The IG investigates allegations of misconduct by prosecutors and prosecution team members, including detectives, and can refer criminal cases to appropriate authorities. The IG can compel testimony and documents, coordinate with other state oversight bodies, and publish investigation reports.
