Allows retired public employees in PERS to collect pension while serving as elected officials.
New Jersey S1442 permits retired public employees who are members of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and currently serving as elected officials to collect their pension benefits while continuing to hold their elected office and receive their full salary. This applies only to those whose retirement allowance is not based solely on their service in the public office to which they were elected, and no additional contributions will be required from them for that service. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
