New Jersey S1343 permits students aged 16 to 18 to be eligible for high school graduation credits in health, safety, and physical education if they complete a course at a county fire academy. To qualify, students must pass an examination to become a junior firefighter or equivalent and commit to volunteering at the fire department in their municipality for two years. This act does not fulfill the requirement to join the Junior Firefighter’s Auxiliary. The provisions of the bill take effect immediately and apply to the first full school year following its enactment.
