S.1324

Eliminates age restriction for issuing special permits to carry handgun to retired law enforcement officers.

Introduced·1/13/26
Introduced Text

Eliminates age restriction for retired law enforcement officers to carry handguns.

This bill removes the age limit for retired law enforcement officers in New Jersey to obtain permits to carry handguns. Previously, these officers could carry handguns without establishing "justifiable need" until they turned 75. The bill allows them to continue this privilege regardless of age, provided they meet other conditions such as semi-annual qualification in the use of their handgun and absence of disqualifying factors.
