Introduced Text

New Jersey S1135 changes organ donation opt-in to opt-out for residents applying for or renewing driver's licenses or IDs.

New Jersey S1135 modifies the state's organ and tissue donation system by changing the default designation for residents applying for or renewing driver's licenses or identification cards from an "opt-in" to an "opt-out" system. Under the new law, residents will be automatically considered organ donors unless they actively opt out. The bill also mandates that the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission provide an online portal for residents to review information about organ donation and make their decisions.
