Introduced Text

Designates April 9th as Dr. James Still Day in New Jersey to honor his contributions as a self-educated homeopathic healer.

This joint resolution designates April 9th of each year as Dr. James Still Day in New Jersey. Dr. James Still, born into poverty in 1812, became a successful homeopathic healer through self-education and innovation, creating a cough balm from plants and herbs. Despite facing racial prejudice, he treated patients free of charge. In 2005, New Jersey acquired his medical office, now a historic site and education center. The resolution requests the Governor to issue an annual proclamation for events celebrating Dr. Still's legacy.
