Proposed constitutional amendment to allow $250 annual property tax deduction for surviving spouses of nonresident veterans.
This bill proposes an amendment to the New Jersey State Constitution to permit the Legislature to extend eligibility for an annual $250 property tax deduction to the surviving spouse of a nonresident veteran. The deceased veteran must have been honorably discharged or released from active service in the U.S. Armed Forces, but not have been a citizen and resident of New Jersey at the time of death. The surviving spouse must be a resident of New Jersey during their widowhood or widowerhood. If approved by voters, the amendment would authorize the Legislature to provide this tax deduction.
