New Jersey A987 amends firearm purchase regulations to require every household member of an applicant for a permit to purchase a handgun or a firearms purchaser identification card to submit to a criminal history records background check. Household members are defined as any person over the age of 18 who cohabitates with the applicant. An applicant would be disqualified from obtaining a permit or identification card if they reside with a household member who is disqualified from owning a firearm.
