This bill allows counties to create a diversionary program for first-time juvenile offenders charged with certain low-level offenses. Eligible juveniles can have their charges dismissed if they complete the New Jersey Youth Challenge Academy. The program is available for those charged with a petty disorderly persons offense, disorderly persons offense, crime of the fourth degree, or crime of the third degree, excluding drug offenses.
