Introduced Text

Establishes child support lien on life insurance proceeds; requires insurers to perform child support judgment search.

The bill amends New Jersey law to establish a child support lien on the proceeds of life insurance policies and annuity contracts. It requires insurers to perform a child support judgment search before distributing proceeds to ensure any child support judgments are satisfied. If a judgment is found, the proceeds are paid to the Probation Division until the judgment is satisfied. Certain types of insurance policies and funeral expenses are exempt. The bill also limits the liability of insurance companies and attorneys when satisfying child support judgments from these proceeds.
