New Jersey A874 mandates parental notification when seclusion techniques are used on students with disabilities and requires data collection on such.

New Jersey A874 amends current law to require immediate parental notification by telephone or electronic communication when seclusion techniques are used on students with disabilities. A full written report of the incident must be provided to the parent or guardian within 48 hours. The Department of Education is mandated to collect data annually on the use of physical restraints and seclusion techniques on students with disabilities, including the number of students excluded from school pending psychiatric clearance.
